HOLY CON FUNK BATMAN!

Remember that post wayyyy back where I mentioned that I would (hopefully) be attending NYCC? Well guess what?

IT HAPPENED.

Yayayayayayay. So my girlfriend and I hopped on Amtrak on October 11th (my birthday), just in time to attend New York Comic Con on Friday through Sunday. This was definitely one of the most memorable moments on my entire freaking life. Here are the highlights.

Well firstly, my girlfriend and I dressed up on Friday as Trekkies. I was a captain and she was my Vulcan science officer. I got called Kirk quite often and she got called Spock and Saavik. We had a great time stopping every three seconds to pose for pictures. It was actually quite funny. It usually went, "Can I take your picture?" We acquiesced and the cat would do the Vulcan salute and say, "Live long and prosper." Lulz, what a great time. Here's a pic. Bad of me. Tracie is sexy Spock. You're welcome.

On Saturday, we cosplayed Doctor Who. I was, of course, David Tennant's Tenth Doctor. Tracie was Matt Smith's Eleven. What awesome costumes. I ordered a personally tailored suit (looked amazing) offline, and managed to find a sonic, Ten's shoes, and an Express shirt and tie to match. Tracie found an awesome Tweed jacket, a shirt, a bowtie, and some suspenders. We ordered her sonic screwdriver straight from bloody Britain. We, again, had many many pictures taken of us throughout the day. I, to my excitement, heard a lot of people exclaim that I was the best Tenth Doctor cosplay they'd ever seen. Some cat even stopped me on the streets of New York City to tell me that. Seriously, what an honor. Here's another pic yay.

Ok, so for some cool stuff. Rapid-fire time.

We met the actual model for Samara from the Mass Effect series, Rana McAnear. She was swarmed with people taking pictures of her and asking her to take pictures. I assume she gets paid by BioWare to go to these cons and look Asarisome (get it?). I, one of the annoying fanboys, took a pretty legit picture with her. Check it.

Doctor Who meets Mass Effect.

Pretty great crossover. Get on this BioWare. Future DLC perhaps?

Ok, so next. Tracie met Stan Lee. I half expected him to keel over before she managed to get to him, but he survived and she took a picture with him. There's a check off her bucket list. We also both took a picture with Peter Davison, the Fifth Doctor and father-in-law to David Tennant. That's probably the closest I will ever get to David Tennant. But he was a lovely man. Immediately put his arms around us and told the photographer, "These are my friends." Awe, cheers Mr. Davison.

Just as exciting, Tracie and I were first in line to meet Peter Davison. We're that hardcore. We do have a funny story to tell about the line, but I'm sure Tracie doesn't want that to get out. Anywho, back to the topic. Whilst in line, Sean freaking Astin walks out, looks at Tracie and I for a second, and asks, "So who are you guys waiting for?" We stare like idiots for all of three seconds and I say, "Peter Davison." He smiles and says, "I should be in line for Peter Davison. Have fun guys." I soooo wanted to tell him he should join us, but had autographs to sign. It was really awesome that he stopped to talk to us, though. What a nice man. Way nicer than that stupid Tom Felton. Smug little guy walked by us with security and didn't stop to talk to his fans. Or what about Ian McDiarmid? Emperor Palpatine was seriously charging $125 for ONE item autographed by him. And he was hidden behind a curtain. Only guy doing that. He's not worth that cash haha.

Sorry, back to the topic.

It was my first con and we got to do a lot of cool stuff. Tracie got us in front of the line at Ubisoft's booth because the Frag Dolls were working the lines. We met Mark Waid, the writer of Daredevil, and we also met J.K. Woodward, the artist for the Star Trek/Doctor Who comics I blog about so much. He was more excited to see us than we were to see him. He immediately signed my comic and took a picture with Tracie and I. You see, I was dressed up as the Doctor and she was dressed up as Star Trek. Basically his comic come to life. He kept laughing and saying how cool it was to see this.

We also met the second most gorgeous redhead I've seen in my life. She was cosplaying as Amelia Pond, and might I say, she did an excellent job. Here she is sitting beside the most gorgeous redhead I've ever seen.

We also saw Adam West and Burt Ward. Meh.

And we shot bows. Don't ask us how it went.

Overall, this con was one of the greatest experiences in my life. Hopefully, I'll be able to attend again next year. I can't believe all that I got accomplished and all that I saw. What a culture. It was definitely an amazing way to spend a birthday weekend. I'll leave you faithful blog readers with the cutest picture in the world. Eat your hearts out.

- Christian :)
