Hi vivacious viewers :)
I haven't done a post on recent comic books in a long time. So sorry. Since then, I've had a lot of stuff to read. Today, I'm going to talk about a few comics. Firstly, Iron Man #6 and Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time #1. We'll start with Iron Man.
Ok, so I was a little hesitant about Marvel NOW!'s Iron Man. It started off with a couple done-in-one issues all involving Extremis. Great, especially since the third Iron Man film is coming out in a few months. Kieron Gillen and Greg Land have definitely had hits and misses with the first five issues. I was hesitant about the sixth, but the name "The Godkiller" struck me. So let me tell you what I liked about Issue 6.
Pros: Tony Stark. In a bar. With purple alien girls. What can go wrong? This comic had quite a few Star Trek vibes. In fact, there was a reference to the show, as well. Tony Stark seems to be galavanting around the universe like a young James Kirk. And the purple woman? Basically a Marvel version of an Orion slave girl. I can get on that train.
I also enjoyed the joke about Tony's beard. Very funny. You'll laugh when you read it.
Finally, the ending of this issue was great. Definitely set up the scene for a very good next issue. Let's hope this creative team doesn't ruin it!
Cons: Most of this whole issue was a flirty conversation in a bar and a bedroom. That's great, except it ran for almost the whole issue. I pay $3.99 for a 32 page book. I want some action. This had very little.
So...

Next is the first issue of the new Doctor Who miniseries by IDW. If you don't know, this year is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. IDW is celebrating by releasing a year-long miniseries. Each single issue features an incarnation of the Doctor. Obviously, the first issue involved the First Doctor. So how did I like it?
Pros: The Doctor was written well and the story was completely in continuity. It mentioned earlier events in the Doctor's life. I'm a sucker for continuity.
The writing and lettering were awesome. And the story set up for the next issue fairly well. And who was that mysterious man at the beginning? Possibly… the Master?
Cons: The Doctor's companions weren't written so well. Sadly, during the First Doctor's tenure, the companions were there to show how smart he was. The same thing happens in this issue. Ian Chesterton helps out (surprisingly) in a crucial scene, but Barbara and Susan are just… there.
The thing about Darwin and natural selection. Gross.
The artwork was a little sloppy in places. (It was mostly great, though!)
So…
Looking forward to the next issue. Actually, the whole series.
A 4 out of 5.
Stick around!
